Over Two Dozen Organizations Call on FERC to Support Large-Scale Transmission.
WASHINGTON, D.C.– In reaction to the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANOPR) on local transmission planning, cost allotment and generator affiliation issued in July by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), over two dozen organizations sent out a letter to FERC Commissioners today revealing their assistance for massive transmission.
The signatories to the letter, most of which are supporters of the Macro Grid Initiative Vision Statement, consist of energies, NGOs, think tanks, labor unions, state energy authorities, nationwide trade associations, agricultural and environmental companies.
” We encourage moving towards guidelines that improve the structures and guidelines under the Commissions jurisdiction that enable large-scale regional and interregional transmission expansion to ensure that we have a resistant, clean, trustworthy, and cost effective power system,” the signatories wrote, pointing out “the fast-growing and extensive recognition of the importance of large-scale transmission to ensure that the nations transmission system can supporting future needs.”.
The letter identifies numerous methods electrical power users gain from transmission, such as boosting dependability through the mitigation of hazards like Winter Storm Uri and assisting in the shift to clean energy to achieve decarbonization objectives. The signatories likewise commended FERC for “establishing the Federal-State Joint Task Force on Transmission and for seeking to work collaboratively with states in its rulemaking procedure.”.
” The varied group of signatories on this joint declaration understand that broadening and upgrading the nations transmission network will provide jobs and financial advancement, a cleaner environment, and lower costs for consumers. The Macro Grid Initiative praises FERC for starting the ANOPR procedure, which we hope brings us one step more detailed to the 21st century Macro Grid we understand is required to deliver the trusted, cost effective, and tidy energy future that Americans are worthy of and want,” included Barbara Tyran, Director of the Macro Grid Initiative.
Reply comments in action to the ANOPR are due in November, which could be followed by a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.
