By Constance ThompsonSeptember 16, 2021

The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) is delighted to share the 4th installation in our “Accelerating Renewables” blog series.
Each installment features market leaders and subjects related to accelerating a fair and just shift to a renewable energy economy. In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, our September features highlight how three Hispanic-owned Accelerate member companies are prospering in the renewable energy sector.
What inspired you to start SUNTEX?
As a natural-born leader, I constantly set high expectations for myself and always try to find opportunities to serve others– be it by offering remarkable customer care, language translations, or just sharing understanding with others. My individual goals and desire to assist others led me to work in the renewable resource sector, where I can pursue this dream on a larger scale.
Inform us about SUNTEX?
Our companys mission is easy: we wish to make solar easy and budget friendly every action of the way. We mostly serve the Hispanic neighborhood in Texas. That is what we do best– assist Spanish speakers comprehend and adopt renewable resource as a way of living, helping generations to come.
Please show us more about your journey towards developing SUNTEX. Was there an “aha minute” when you chose to concentrate on solar?
Back in August of 2018, my company partner and I had the opportunity to join a really promising small solar setup company in Houston. Through this work we saw the opportunity readily available to bring solar into our (the Hispanic) community.
Why is concentrating on the Hispanic community a concern for SUNTEX?
Primary: it remains in our blood. My business partner and I are native Spanish speakers, and we can identify well with our individuals and their worldview. Number Two: in the past, we have personally experienced an absence of care and communication from those that can not relate to our culture. We knew that solar benefits everybody, despite race or background, which our individuals would require a lot of assistance to understand how to get this benefit for their houses.
What obstacles do you deal with? Why?
Being a small business with a high level of service expectations for our consumers comes with its own set of difficulties. Additionally, even though solar energy has been around for a while, the basics of these tasks are not widely taught in school.
How are you making an effect through SUNTEX?
By simply measuring up to our sincere values. I have actually discovered throughout my life that in business, there is no other method to do it best however to be honest. While others might take faster ways, the reality constantly dominates.
Please share with us a recent business success story.
Throughout our initial visit, I kept in mind that they might just accomplish about 56% of solar energy balanced out due to their homes consumption rates and shading from trees on the property. We discussed a few extra energy performance upgrades to the house to reduce energy intake, which could offer a higher energy balanced out. Angela initially flinched at the thought of investing more cash into the house, however ultimately she called me back and said she desired to move forward with the solar and energy efficiency upgrades.
Throughout the setup, we wound up paying for Angela and her elderly mother to remain in a hotel till their upgrades and inspections were total to guarantee they were comfortable throughout the procedure.
Now, Angelas solar system covers 100% of the electricity used in her house. Thanks to the AC upgrade, they have actually minimized their energy usage considerably, and she has a flat, foreseeable solar payment monthly that is less than she was paying prior to setting up solar. This is what we suggest by “client service.”
From a nationwide perspective, how can we improve access to renewable enery?
From my experience, there is a huge gap in access. The majority of the house owners that we check out are lucky to own a home, yet a lot of them have actually not received solar due to numerous combined or separated factors such as subprime credit rating, lower annual family earnings, self-employment, or a lack of knowledge of readily available loan programs. These neighborhoods require more assistance and education on the value of setting up a solar system that can conserve them money. We need to supply more people with opportunities to embrace renewable resource with less inconveniences.
How has your Accelerate membership assisted your business?
By empowering us to think that there is somebody there to support our growth in this industry, and offering us the chance to fulfill others in the same boat. Now I know that there is wish for minority small companies in the renewable resource industry.
How can possible partners do company with you?
It is essential that we share the exact same values and mission to assist others, even if it indicates leaving our convenience zones. It may cost a little bit more for us to do business, however its worth it in the end for our consumers. We d love to satisfy to talk about possible cooperation opportunities if youre ready to begin there.
Exists anything else you want to show ACORE members and partners?
We are really grateful for the Accelerate subscription program and for all of the chances you have provided. I know this is only the start, and we have a long road ahead of us; however, I anticipate becoming a sponsor to assist lead the way for other Accelerate members in the future– with an unique thanks to all of my consumers and collaborators at SUNTEX, since they are the fuel that drives the objective!
