By Constance ThompsonSeptember 16, 2021

Additionally, even though solar energy has been around for a while, the fundamentals of these tasks are not widely taught in school. During our preliminary appointment, I kept in mind that they might only achieve about 56% of solar energy balanced out due to their homes intake rates and shading from trees on the home. We discussed a couple of extra energy performance upgrades to the home to decrease energy intake, which might provide a greater energy balanced out. Angela initially cringed at the thought of investing more money into the home, but ultimately she called me back and stated she wanted to move forward with the solar and energy effectiveness upgrades. Thanks to the AC upgrade, they have decreased their energy consumption considerably, and she has a flat, foreseeable solar payment each month that is less than she was paying prior to installing solar.

The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) is pleased to share the 4th installment in our “Accelerating Renewables” blog series.
Each installment features industry leaders and subjects associated with speeding up an equitable and just shift to a renewable resource economy. In acknowledgment of National Hispanic Heritage Month, our September functions highlight how three Hispanic-owned Accelerate member companies are thriving in the renewable resource sector.
What inspired you to start SUNTEX?
As a natural-born leader, I constantly set high expectations for myself and always search for chances to serve others– be it by providing remarkable client service, language translations, or just sharing understanding with others. My individual objectives and desire to help others led me to operate in the renewable energy sector, where I can pursue this dream on a bigger scale.
Inform us about SUNTEX?
Our companys objective is basic: we wish to make solar easy and affordable every step of the way. We mostly serve the Hispanic neighborhood in Texas. That is what we do best– help Spanish speakers understand and adopt renewable resource as a way of living, helping generations to come.
Please show us more about your journey toward establishing SUNTEX. Existed an “aha moment” when you chose to concentrate on solar?
Back in August of 2018, my business partner and I had the opportunity to join a really appealing little solar installation business in Houston. Through this work we saw the opportunity available to bring solar into our (the Hispanic) community. As an outcome, my partner and I integrated his experience in offering to the Hispanic market with my customer support expertise to develop SUNTEX where “the consumer is the factor we exist as a company”. Our focus is linking the Hispanic community and our clients with outstanding client service.
Why is concentrating on the Hispanic community a concern for SUNTEX?
Primary: it is in our blood. My organization partner and I are native Spanish speakers, and we can identify well with our people and their worldview. Second: in the past, we have actually personally experienced a lack of care and interaction from those that can not identify with our culture. We understood that solar benefits everyone, regardless of race or background, which our people would require a lot of support to understand how to acquire this advantage for their homes.
What difficulties do you face? Why?
Being a small business with a high level of service expectations for our clients comes with its own set of obstacles. Furthermore, even though solar energy has been around for a while, the basics of these jobs are not widely taught in school.
How are you making an impact through SUNTEX?
By merely measuring up to our sincere values. I have actually learned throughout my life that in service, there is no other method to do it ideal however to be honest. While others may take shortcuts, the reality always dominates.
Please show us a current company success story.
Just recently, after assisting a client “go solar” in two of her houses, she referred a brand-new client named Angela to us. Throughout our preliminary visit, I kept in mind that they could just attain about 56% of solar energy balanced out due to their houses intake rates and shading from trees on the residential or commercial property. We talked about a few additional energy efficiency upgrades to the home to decrease energy usage, which could supply a greater energy balanced out. Angela initially winced at the thought of investing more cash into the house, however ultimately she called me back and said she wished to progress with the solar and energy performance upgrades. We finished a Home Energy Audit to see why her usage was so high and found that her home required a larger air conditioner system, plus additional ducts to disperse the a/c equally throughout the home. We also informed her that the financing partner might include the expense of that upgrade to the solar loan– which in doing so, she could receive a lower rate of interest than any other house enhancement loan for that a/c upgrade. She took my guidance and decided to progress and was, in reality, able to reduce her loan interest rate.
Throughout the installation, we wound up spending for Angela and her senior mother to remain in a hotel until their upgrades and inspections were total to ensure they were comfy throughout the procedure.
Now, Angelas planetary system covers 100% of the electrical energy used in her home. Thanks to the air conditioner upgrade, they have reduced their energy consumption significantly, and she has a flat, foreseeable solar payment each month that is less than she was paying prior to setting up solar. This is what we imply by “customer care.”
From a national viewpoint, how can we improve access to renewable enery?
Many of the property owners that we check out are lucky to own a home, yet numerous of them have actually not qualified for solar due to numerous combined or separated factors such as subprime credit score, lower annual home earnings, self-employment, or a lack of understanding of available loan programs. We require to offer more people with opportunities to adopt sustainable energy with less hassles.
How has your Accelerate membership helped your business?
By empowering us to believe that there is somebody there to support our growth in this industry, and providing us the opportunity to satisfy others in the exact same boat. Now I know that there is hope for minority little organizations in the eco-friendly energy market.
How can potential partners work with you?
It is necessary that we share the very same worths and mission to assist others, even if it implies leaving our convenience zones. It may cost a little bit more for us to do company, however its worth it in the end for our consumers. If youre prepared to start there, we d enjoy to fulfill to go over possible cooperation chances.
Exists anything else you wish to show ACORE members and partners?
We are genuinely grateful for the Accelerate membership program and for all of the opportunities you have offered. I know this is only the beginning, and we have a long roadway ahead of us; nevertheless, I anticipate ending up being a sponsor to help lead the way for other Accelerate members in the future– with an unique thanks to all of my customers and collaborators at SUNTEX, since they are the fuel that drives the objective!
