By Constance ThompsonSeptember 16, 2021
Furthermore, even though solar energy has been around for a while, the fundamentals of these jobs are not commonly taught in school. Throughout our preliminary consultation, I kept in mind that they might just achieve about 56% of solar energy offset due to their homes intake rates and shading from trees on the property. We discussed a couple of extra energy effectiveness upgrades to the house to reduce energy usage, which might supply a higher energy offset. Angela at first cringed at the thought of investing more money into the house, but ultimately she called me back and said she wanted to move forward with the solar and energy effectiveness upgrades. Thanks to the Air Conditioner upgrade, they have lowered their energy usage significantly, and she has a flat, foreseeable solar payment each month that is less than she was paying prior to installing solar.
The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) is happy to share the fourth installment in our “Accelerating Renewables” blog site series.
Each installation includes industry leaders and subjects associated with speeding up a fair and just shift to a renewable resource economy. In acknowledgment of National Hispanic Heritage Month, our September features highlight how three Hispanic-owned Accelerate member business are prospering in the sustainable energy sector.
What inspired you to begin SUNTEX?
As a natural-born leader, I constantly set high expectations for myself and always look for chances to serve others– be it by providing extraordinary customer support, language translations, or merely sharing knowledge with others. My individual objectives and desire to assist others led me to operate in the renewable resource sector, where I can pursue this dream on a bigger scale.
Tell us about SUNTEX?
Our businesss objective is simple: we wish to make solar simple and budget-friendly every step of the way. We largely serve the Hispanic community in Texas. That is what we do best– help Spanish speakers comprehend and adopt sustainable energy as a way of life, assisting generations to come.
Please share with us more about your journey towards establishing SUNTEX. Was there an “aha minute” when you decided to focus on solar?
Back in August of 2018, my organization partner and I had the chance to sign up with an extremely promising little solar setup company in Houston. Through this work we saw the chance available to bring solar into our (the Hispanic) neighborhood.
Why is focusing on the Hispanic community a concern for SUNTEX?
Top: it remains in our blood. My company partner and I are native Spanish speakers, and we can determine well with our individuals and their worldview. Second: in the past, we have personally experienced a lack of care and communication from those that can not determine with our culture. We understood that solar advantages everyone, no matter race or background, and that our individuals would require a lot of support to comprehend how to acquire this benefit for their houses.
What obstacles do you deal with? Why?
Being a small business with a high level of service expectations for our consumers comes with its own set of obstacles. Furthermore, even though solar energy has been around for a while, the basics of these jobs are not extensively taught in school.
How are you making an impact through SUNTEX?
By just living up to our honest worths. I have found out throughout my life that in business, there is no other method to do it best however to be truthful. While others might take shortcuts, the reality constantly prevails.
Please share with us a recent company success story.
During our initial consultation, I noted that they could just attain about 56% of solar energy offset due to their houses intake rates and shading from trees on the property. We talked about a few extra energy efficiency upgrades to the home to lower energy consumption, which might offer a greater energy offset. Angela initially winced at the thought of investing more money into the home, but eventually she called me back and said she desired to move forward with the solar and energy effectiveness upgrades.
Throughout the setup, we wound up spending for Angela and her senior mom to remain in a hotel up until their upgrades and assessments were total to ensure they were comfortable throughout the process.
Now, Angelas solar system covers 100% of the electrical power utilized in her house. Thanks to the Air Conditioning upgrade, they have actually minimized their energy consumption greatly, and she has a flat, predictable solar payment each month that is less than she was paying before setting up solar. This is what we imply by “client service.”
From a nationwide perspective, how can we enhance access to eco-friendly enery?
Most of the house owners that we check out are lucky to own a home, yet many of them have actually not qualified for solar due to a number of combined or separated aspects such as subprime credit rating, lower annual home earnings, self-employment, or a lack of understanding of available loan programs. We need to supply more people with opportunities to adopt sustainable energy with fewer troubles.
How has your Accelerate subscription helped your organization?
By empowering us to believe that there is someone there to support our development in this market, and offering us the opportunity to fulfill others in the exact same boat. Now I know that there is hope for minority small companies in the eco-friendly energy industry.
How can potential partners do business with you?
It is very important that we share the same worths and objective to help others, even if it indicates leaving our comfort zones. It may cost a little more for us to do organization, but its worth it in the end for our customers. If youre willing to begin there, we d like to meet to go over possible cooperation chances.
Exists anything else you would like to share with ACORE members and partners?
We are genuinely grateful for the Accelerate membership program and for all of the chances you have actually supplied. I know this is only the beginning, and we have a long roadway ahead of us; however, I eagerly anticipate becoming a sponsor to assist pave the method for other Accelerate members in the future– with a special thanks to all of my consumers and collaborators at SUNTEX, given that they are the fuel that drives the objective!
