44 states want to put Facebook’s ‘Instagram for Kids’ in timeout before it launches

Last month, the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, an international coalition of 35 kidss and consumer groups, gotten in touch with Instagram to stop its strategies to produce a version of the app for users under the age of 13. Now, dozens of state prosecutors are doing the very same.

Facebook still protects its plans to develop an Instagram for kids under 13. It was first reported in March that the social media was dealing with a new version of Instagram targeted at this audience.

” As every moms and dad knows, kids are currently online. We desire to enhance this scenario by delivering experiences that give parents presence and control over what their kids are doing.”

In April, Facebook expressed a comparable sentiment, saying that “the reality is that kids are online, they want to connect with their loved ones” and verifying that “Instagram remained in the early phases of establishing a service for kids,” and it “would disappoint ads in any Instagram item developed for kids younger than 13.”
