By Constance ThompsonSeptember 16, 2021

The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) is delighted to share the 4th installment in our “Accelerating Renewables” blog series.
Each installation includes industry leaders and topics connected to accelerating an equitable and simply transition to a renewable resource economy. In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, our September functions highlight how three Hispanic-owned Accelerate member companies are flourishing in the renewable resource sector.
What inspired you to begin SUNTEX?
As a natural-born leader, I constantly set high expectations for myself and always look for chances to serve others– be it by providing extraordinary customer support, language translations, or merely sharing understanding with others. My personal goals and desire to help others led me to work in the sustainable energy sector, where I can pursue this dream on a larger scale.

Our businesss objective is simple: we wish to make solar easy and affordable every action of the way. We largely serve the Hispanic neighborhood in Texas. That is what we do best– help Spanish speakers understand and adopt renewable resource as a lifestyle, assisting generations to come.
Please show us more about your journey towards developing SUNTEX. Was there an “aha minute” when you chose to concentrate on solar?
Back in August of 2018, my organization partner and I had the opportunity to sign up with a really promising little solar setup company in Houston. Through this work we saw the opportunity offered to bring solar into our (the Hispanic) community.
Why is concentrating on the Hispanic neighborhood a concern for SUNTEX?
Number Two: in the past, we have personally experienced a lack of care and interaction from those that can not determine with our culture. We understood that solar advantages everybody, regardless of race or background, and that our individuals would require a lot of support to comprehend how to obtain this benefit for their houses.
What obstacles do you face? Why?
Being a little company with a high level of service expectations for our customers features its own set of challenges. The biggest obstacle we face is shared by a number of small businesses: turnover. Additionally, although solar power has been around for a while, the essentials of these jobs are not widely taught in school. We have to spend a lot amount of time training sales staff to make sure they are able to supply a high level of client service.
How are you making an effect through SUNTEX?
By just measuring up to our honest values. I have found out throughout my life that in company, there is no other method to do it right but to be sincere. While others might take shortcuts, the fact constantly dominates.
Please show us a recent company success story.
During our initial consultation, I noted that they could just attain about 56% of solar energy balanced out due to their homes consumption rates and shading from trees on the property. We talked about a couple of extra energy effectiveness upgrades to the home to decrease energy consumption, which might offer a greater energy offset. Angela at first winced at the thought of investing more cash into the home, but eventually she called me back and stated she desired to move forward with the solar and energy performance upgrades.
Throughout the setup, we ended up spending for Angela and her senior mother to stay in a hotel until their assessments and upgrades were complete to ensure they were comfortable throughout the process.
Now, Angelas planetary system covers 100% of the electrical energy used in her home. Thanks to the AC upgrade, they have actually lowered their energy usage greatly, and she has a flat, foreseeable solar payment monthly that is less than she was paying before installing solar. This is what we imply by “client service.”
From a national perspective, how can we enhance access to renewable enery?
Most of the property owners that we check out are fortunate to own a house, yet many of them have not qualified for solar due to a number of combined or isolated elements such as subprime credit score, lower yearly family income, self-employment, or a lack of knowledge of offered loan programs. We require to provide more people with chances to embrace eco-friendly energy with less troubles.
How has your Accelerate membership assisted your business?
By empowering us to think that there is somebody there to support our development in this market, and giving us the chance to satisfy others in the very same boat. Now I know that there is expect minority small companies in the renewable resource industry.
How can possible partners work with you?
It is essential that we share the same values and mission to help others, even if it suggests leaving our convenience zones. It might cost a bit more for us to do company, however its worth it in the end for our consumers. If youre ready to start there, we d like to meet to go over possible partnership opportunities.
Is there anything else you wish to share with ACORE members and partners?
We are genuinely grateful for the Accelerate subscription program and for all of the chances you have provided. I understand this is just the beginning, and we have a long road ahead of us; nevertheless, I look forward to becoming a sponsor to assist lead the way for other Accelerate members in the future– with a special thanks to all of my customers and collaborators at SUNTEX, since they are the fuel that drives the mission!
