Twitter for iOS rolling out offensive tweet warning feature to all users

This function is allowed for all accounts that have English in their language settings and is rolling for iOS and Android users beginning now.

” We started checking triggers last year that encouraged people to pause and reevaluate a offensive or possibly hazardous reply– such as insults, strong language, or hateful remarks– prior to Tweeting it. When triggered, individuals had a chance to take a minute and make edits, erase, or send the reply as is.”

After one year of testing, Twitter is lastly launching its offending tweet warning function for all users to encourage people to stop briefly and reconsider a offensive or possibly harmful reply before they hit send.

According to Twitter, these triggers resulted in individuals sending “less possibly offensive replies across the service:”

34% of people revised their preliminary reply or chose not to send their reply at all if prompted.
After being triggered once, people made up, on average, 11% fewer offending replies in the future.
People were less most likely to receive hazardous and offensive replies back if triggered.

After this year of screening, this is how Twitter integrated these prompts into the system:

Factor to consider of the nature of the relationship between the author and replier, consisting of how typically they communicate. For example, if two accounts respond and follow to each other often, theres a greater likelihood that they have a much better understanding of the favored tone of interaction.
Modifications to our technology to much better account for scenarios in which language might be recovered by underrepresented neighborhoods and utilized in non-harmful methods.
Improvement to our technology to more precisely spot strong language, consisting of profanity.
Created an easier method for individuals to let us know if they discovered the prompt practical or appropriate.

Just recently, Twitter announced its Spaces feature is now readily available to everyone with at least 600 fans. This Tuesday, the business purchased Scroll to prepare for a yet-to-be-revealed membership tier of its services.
